July Curriculum News

June 28 - July 2: Patriotism/Independence Day. 
Happy Birthday U.S.A!  We celebrate our country’s birthday this week by singing some of our favorite songs like God Bless America and This Land Is My Land This Land Is your Land. Stories read and artwork created, are based on the making of out country and our freedom. Children will create noisemakers and flags to celebrate the 4th of July.

Closed July 5th
Remember we will be closed on Monday July 5th in honor of Independence Day.

July 6-9: Pond Life
From tadpoles to frogs this week children learn all about the interesting things found in ponds. Lily pads and cat tails are only a few of the plant life we introduce to our young children. Art, songs and games are based on pond life.

July 12-16: Bayou Life and Animals
This week our curriculum revolves around Louisiana culture and Bayou life. Children get a taste of Louisiana through music, dance, art and stories based on Louisiana culture and Bayou life.

July 19-23: Sea and Ocean Animals
Let’s discover the deep blue sea! This unit covers some of the most popular sea creatures. Children are introduced to a variety of fish, whales, sea turtles and other sea animals.
All learning activities revolve around these wonderful creatures and their life cycles.

July 26-30: Beaches and Islands

Sand castles, seashells, palm trees and leis,
Having fun at the beach in so many ways!!

We discovered life in the ocean now it’s time to explore the sandy beaches that lead us to the deep blue sea. Children build sand castles, sort seashells, explore coconuts and pineapples and create colorful artwork based on beaches and islands.

August Curriculum News

August 2-6: The Zoo
Kids Count kids “Bring the zoo to you!” Through games, songs, stories and art we bring an assortment of zoo animals into our classrooms this week.

We encourage children to bring their favorite zoo creatures and story books to share with their classmates. This is a great week to get together with family and friends and rediscover the Greater Baton Rouge Zoo.

August 9-13: Pets
Caring for our pets is a great way to promote responsibility with young children. Children learn and discover different ways to care for our pets and encourage children to share their favorite pet pictures and stories.

August 16-20: Transportation/Air
This week activities are based on a variety of transportation vehicles that are found in the sky.
From hot air balloons and airplanes to helicopters and space shuttles.

Children are encouraged to bring AIR transportation vehicles this week to show and share with their classmates.

August 23-27: Transportation/Land
It’s land transportation week! Calling all cars, trucks and SUVs, roll in this week for another fun filled week filled with activities involving all types of land vehicles.  We’ll be sorting, counting, matching, and comparing vehicles so bring in your wheels and “Let’s Ride!”
